The Mind Tilt Podcast Interview About Community Management

Saturday, August 20th, 2011

It’s April 2009. I’ve been running the New Media Cincinnati social media group for a year and a half. Still connecting with people in the Greater Cincinnati area. Still passionate about taking online connections in the real world.  I decide to take the day off the job that had the commute up to the Dayton area and make time to connect with my online friends in Cincinnati.

I put out the call on Twitter and Facebook, saying that I’d like to meet anyone who’s interested at the Max and Erma’s on Montgomery Road.  Among many who respond is Andy Warner, whom I’ve only known on Twitter and Facebook. We’ve never met in person.

Lunch at the Max and Erma’s goes really well. We’re all encouraged to meet together on a day that’s not the second Saturday of the month.  Andy and I hit it off well, and over the next several months we continue to meet from time to time.  I share my copy of Chip and Dan Heath’s “Made to Stick” with him, because it resonates so deeply with me. Andy even makes it out to a New Media Cincinnati event.

Some months later, Andy lets me know via Instant Message (because we’ve become that great of friends) that he’s moved to Portland, Oregon for a new job.

Many months later he invites me to be on his new podcast, “Mind Tilt.”  Andy describes it as “thought leadership at the intersection of sales, marketing and strategy.”  Last week he releases it to the public:  (more…)

Grease 2

Remember the movie “Grease 2“? Michelle Pfeiffer, Adrian Zmed, etc.? I remember several months that it was being played nonstop on cable (oy!). I developed a huge crush on Michelle Pfeiffer. But that’s not what I’m here to talk about. Sort of.

“You got a rep to protect.”

I remember a recurring line in the movie from the T-Birds: “I got a rep to protect.(more…)

The CinDaily Podcast Interview

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Joe Wessels, the host of the CinDaily podcast, had me on his program yesterday to talk about New Media Cincinnati and specifically the recent “tempest in a teapot” situation that occurred over the past week. It was a great opportunity to tell the story of New Media Cincinnati and how this social media community has evolved over the past few years.

LUCRUM Radio Interview

Friday, September 26th, 2008

I recently had the pleasure of being interviewed on LUCRUM Radio with LUCRUM Marketing Manger David E. Bowman. Over some coffee at Winan’s in Vandalia, we talked about my experience in business intelligence and new media, with a bit of marketing mixed in.

David started off by asking about how I got involved in social media, and it gave me the opportunity to share how I got into blogging and podcasting, as well as to share some of the ways I’ve been managing all my presences in social media.  I shared how my passion for intelligence dashboards enables me to keep track of a lot of content I’m consuming and producing.

We also talked about New Media Cincinnati, and I loved sharing about some of the great face-to-face connections I’ve been able to make through that group and how much the group has grown over the past 11 months it’s been around.  I mentioned, for example, that at the last meetup we discussed some ideas for having a new media conference in Cincinnati as well as some ideas for community outreach.

Finally, David asked me for my take on how businesses are embracing new and social media and what it will take for more businesses to do so.

I really want to thank David and the team at LUCRUM for the chance to be a part of their program.  I had a great time!
