Memorial Day Musings

Taste of Cincinnati 2009

Sure, I could have posted these as several, rapid-succession tweets.  I often use Twitter that way.  Instead, I’ve opted to use this post as a brain dump of sorts.

  • Friday we had another successful Dayton-area lunchtime meetup of folks I know through Twitter and social media.  Carole Hicks, by the way, has created a New Media Dayton LinkedIn group, and we’ll be seeing more organization of these events through that group, I believe.
  • I recorded audio from the lunch, more of a “who are you and what do you do?” type of exchange, just so people can get to know one another. I used the Griffin iTalk application on my iPod touch, and, after passing through the Levelator, added it to episode 117 of the Journey Inside My Mind podcast, which went up on Saturday.
  • I really enjoy organizing and running events like this and New Media Cincinnati.  While I have so much to learn, I think I’m getting pretty good at it.
  • Speaking of New Media Cincinnati – we need to have a planning phone call to discuss the June Second Saturday event. Probably this coming Thursday night at 8 PM. I’ll set it up at TalkShoe and will alert the group.
  • I was interviewed on Friday evening by someone who is writing an article about using social media, namely Twitter, in church.  I’m not sure if my stuff will be included in the final article, but if it is, I’ll be sure to link back to it.
  • Sunday after church we went downtown to the 2009 P&G Taste of Cincinnati for a couple hours. I was able to finally meet Twitter friends @geekjames, @5chw4r7z, and @ms5chw4r7z. Also great to see @shawnmummert again. I took some pictures and uploaded them to my Flickr page. I hope others will do the same, tagging them with cincytaste.
  • I’m thinking about the meaning behind Memorial Day. My cousin Ben was recently deployed to Iraq and will be there for a little over a year. I need to call my aunt and uncle and let them know I’m thinking of and praying for them.
  • This morning I read Proverbs 25 and was struck by how important it is to be spreading good news of any kind.  I think that is something I’ve been called to do with all my work. As I said before, I have so much to learn, and to the extent I’ve been successful so far, I give God the glory.
  • I’m spending most of the day today finishing up a presentation about social media I’ll be giving this Friday at Panera in Hyde Park as part of their “Meet Me at Panera” Coffee Talk series.
